What I will be working on:

As an LPC fellow, I will continue to contribute to CMS Phase II detector upgrade studies. Using fast simulation techniques, I previously showed that extended tracker coverage will improve our ability to identify forward jets produced via vector boson fusion processes. This signature is very important for the high luminosity LHC physics program, and I will expand on my previous studies to better understand the benefits of extended tracking. I will also be heavily involved in upgrade studies for the CMS forward calorimeter. I am currently studying the potential benefits of using high-granularity calorimetry in CMS, which would provide detailed information regarding shower development and should allow particle flow techniques to be used to improve jet resolution in the forward region.
