LPC Journal Club:
Tuesday Lunch Discussions
The LPC community at Fermilab has a
no-reading required journal club that meets on Tuesday at lunch break Central Time. Everyone at the LPC is invited to join!
The general idea is that we discuss recent papers from the arXiv over lunch. Voting for which papers to discuss happens during the week leading up to the meeting. Reading the full paper or preparing a discussion is not required. In the meeting, discussions involve reading the abstract, looking at figures, and/or skimming one or two interesting sections. Hopefully this is enough to stimulate interesting questions and conversation, and keep us informed about what’s happening in the field.
Here are some reasons you might vote for a paper:
- You know someone has a new result on the arXiv and want to bug them with questions
- You’ve wanted to learn about a topic for awhile, but haven’t had time to read papers, and know that someone else at lunch has the expertise to walk you through a new paper
- You think it’d be interesting to look at a new result because you’ve done related work in the past
- You have have a new result on the arXiv and are eager to chat about it
Voting for papers closes on Monday at 12:00 PM. The winning paper(s) are announced on the
lpc-residents listserv shortly afterwards.
