Name:

Sarah Alam Malik

What I will be working on:

My research will focus on using the simple yet striking signature of a monojet balanced by missing energy to search for physics beyond the standard model. This signature is the discovery signal for a range of new physics scenarios, such as Large Extra Dimensions in the framework of the ADD model. More recently we used monojet events to place bounds on dark matter which can be directly compared and are complementary to those from the direct detection experiments.

My role in CMS past and present:

I joined CMS in 2010 and worked on the determination of the background from Z decay to neutrinos which is a dominant background in many new physics searches, such as the search for Supersymmetry using the inclusive jets plus missing energy topology and also the search using monojet and missing energy. The two analyses set very stringent limits on SUSY models and Large Extra Dimensions.
