Name:

Shabnam Jabeen

What I will be working on:

I am working on the search for W' boson which decays to a top quark and a bottom quark. Unlike other searches for W' at CMS, I am searching for a W' with generalized couplings, that is, W' can not only have right-handed coupling but anomalous left-handed as well as left- and right- mixed couplings. If both left and right couplings are present in nature, then we would see an interference between the standard model W boson and the W' boson with left couplings. Presence of this interference makes this analysis more interesting and more challenging at the same time. I am also working on JetMET triggers, and I am coconvener of the JetMET trigger group at CMS.

My role in CMS past and present:

I have been working on Jets and missing ET triggers in the past. Now I am using data collected by these and other triggers to search for new physics. I am working on multivariate analysis techniques to enhance our sensitivity for small signals with overwhelming standard model backgrounds. I plan to use these methods in search for new physics in 2012, which, I very much hope, is a year of discoveries :-).
