LPC Distinguished Researcher

Name:

Jacob Linacre

What I will be working on:

The large coupling between the top quark and the Higgs boson, with the associated questions of naturalness and the origin of elementary particle masses, makes events with top quarks an excellent laboratory to probe new physics. My work involves precision measurements of top quark properties likely to be modified by the presence of new physics, including variables related to the top quark spin and kinematic asymmetries in top quark and antiquark pairs. In addition, I'm working on a direct search for top quark pairs from a production process involving new particles, with a focus on supersymmetry and top squark pair-production.

My role in CMS past and present:

I am a convener of the CMS top quark properties sub-group, and previously had a leading role in the production of simulated data samples for CMS analyses.
