What I will be working on:

As an LPC fellow, I will be searching for new physics beyond the Standard Model (SM) in CMS data. I am currently working on two inclusive searches for supersymmetry, in events with jets and MET and in events with same-sign dileptons. In addition, I plan to start a new inclusive analysis that uses events with a single low-momentum (soft) lepton and MET. This final state is not currently well covered in CMS, but it is sensitive to pairs of weakly interacting particles that have a small mass splitting, as predicted by natural supersymmetry.

My role in CMS past and present:

I joined CMS as a post-doc during the long shutdown and I started working on the performance of tracking and electron reconstruction for Run 2. I continue to be involved in electron commissioning and performance in the e/gamma group and as a contact between the e/gamma and SUSY groups. I have worked on Run 2 searches in two final states, jets plus MET and same-sign dileptons, focusing on the estimates of two SM backgrounds: Z(vv) and fake leptons. I also help maintain the online event display configuration in the CMS control room at P5, and I occasionally produce the colorful pictures of 'first collisions' that make it to the news every time the LHC restarts.
