LPC Distinguished Researcher

Name:

Pedro Fernández Manteca

Institution:

Rice

What I will be working on:

My research as a LPC Distinguished Researcher will focus on new physics searches with CMS. I will analyze Run 3 CMS data to search for long-lived particles (LLPs) decaying to hadronic showers in the CMS muon detectors. In addition to that, I will be developing new triggers aiming to enhance the sensitivity to exotic signatures in the upcoming data-taking periods, both in Run 3 and Phase 2.

My role in CMS past and present:

I have been a member of the CMS Collaboration since 2017. During my PhD I performed diboson cross-section measurements and searches for new physics in dileptonic final states. As a postdoctoral researcher at Rice University, I primarily work on the CMS Trigger system. I am one of the main contributors to the design of the Muon Shower Trigger, which targets LLPs that decay to hadronic showers in the CMS muon system, and I also serve as coordinator of the muon reconstruction within the High Level Trigger. In parallel, I devote part of my time to analyzing CMS data, including Higgs boson measurements in the W+W- decay channel and searches for LLPs among others.
